Design Flaw With iCloud Mail

If you have your Mail app in two pane view, there is no button to refresh your mailboxes.

I consider this a usability fail.

How the hell did they miss this? (or am I missing something?)

Find My Friends App Goes Live for iOS 5 Users (Updated)

If you have the iOS5 GM and access to iCloud, then go to iCloud.com while on your iPhone to download the “Find My Friends” app to your phone. This is the only way you can gain access to the App in the App Store.

iCloud Has Left Beta and Is Now Live!

Omg, I am so relieved.

This is so much more slick than the developer preview.

I am happy that they made some of these small changes, and added some nice little animations.

Not only did I get iOS 5 working on my 3GS, but I also got into the iCloud Beta and was able to merge my old Mobile Me account and all of it’s data.
I now have access to the Photo Stream feature on my iPhone so that when I take a picture on the phone it will appear instantly on all my devices.
Cool stuff!

Apple, Give Me Thread View NOW!

iPhone has it.

The new Mail in Mac OS Lion has it.

Mobile Me mail does NOT have it.

I want thread view on Mobile Me!!

(I am assuming they are adding it when Mobile Me becomes iCloud but it has been annoying today and I wish I had it now…)

Preview: iTunes Match on a Mac w/ live streaming and download (by wwwinsanelygreatmac)

Check this out.  Apple’s Match service, as released to developers, allows you to stream music to your Mac or iOS devices, as well as back up your iTunes library to the iCloud for future downloads.  Very cool.

$25 dollars a month???!!!! Is the guy in the video wrong? I thought it was 25 bucks for a year?

A Taste of Things to Come…

So, I am not an Apple developer nor do I have iOS5, but I do own an iPhone on AT&T’s network which means I am able to take part in the iCloud Beta from Apple for iTunes. (Sorry VZ users, you have to wait until the Fall.)

One of the cool features about iCloud is that if you download a song, app, or book to your music library from the iTunes store, then it will then be “pushed” or downloaded to all of your mobile devices. Seamlessly, and without any cables.

My current settings in the Store section within the Settings app.

I can’t tell you how both confusing and satisfying it is to hear a song play on your iPhone that you are 100% sure you didn’t have a chance to sync to your phone yet.

I am like “Hey wait, I don’t need to worry about that anymore!”

Then I ripped a CD to my music library, and my excitement was kicked square in the balls after I realized the same magic that worked for purchased iTunes songs will not work for songs you find from other sources. It’s really upsetting because the “iTunes Way” of syncing media is extremely addicting. It’s actually making me buy from the store more just so the music will wirelessly and automatically sync to all my devices for me.

Ah well. Luckily, 95% of new music I acquire these days is from the iTunes store. So, I think I will find myself very happy with this service more often than not.

P.S. I have apps and books shut off because my GF and I share accounts and apps so only one of us has to buy something. But I don’t always want all the things she is buying on her phone, so I manually sync apps. (she tends to forget to sign out of my account a lot. Good thing she only downloads free apps, haha)
